Direction

[singlepic=23,320,240,,left]You know, sometimes in life you just feel like there is only one way to go, one path that leads you to the next day, but that’s the thing, it’s an emotion and all too often we let emotion drive us to doing things that we may not think is correct. That’s what this photo symbolizes to me, I know it’s very simple and rather crude by a photography standard, but to me it feels like my life has one direction to get anywhere, yet in following that direction I am constantly reminded of how much I am missing just off the path.

We’ve all been there before, something has just happened for the better or worse and we think to ourselves, what if I had done this? Would anything be different? Now the trick isn’t the answer, we all know something would be different, but what would change because of any one decision really? I have, at times, decided to change a normal route when driving some where and ended up in a traffic backup that lasted almost an hour, it was all because I wanted to do it a little differently that time. Granted that isn’t a large example of how a simple choice can change our lives, but it could be. Lets say that instead of taking the surface streets you would normally take to go 5 miles down the road to a friends house, you take the highway that runs the same way trying to save some time. Now imagine that along the way, doing over 60 mph on that highway, there is a truck(big rig) next to you that has a blow out and you end up in an accident because of that truck driver loosing control.

To be clear, I could’ve just as easily said “What if” instead of “Let’s say”, but really think about it, that is a chance situation that cannot be predicted, so how would you feel about your desire to save time if you were crippled afterward?

That’s a little dramatic I know, but I still see some resembelance to that story in this photo, following a protected trail always being able to see what’s just off the path and over the walls that guide you, a whole world awaits you out there.
